Cumulative

The four pages I received from the Roe vs Wade verdict, were an appendix that mentions the laws enforced in the 1840s in 6 different states. USD 4700 is the cumulative sum of the maximum fine that these states penalized the person who administers an abortion. I used this statistical measure to comment on the compound effect this verdict has on our society. From maternal health, infant care, to inequality the repercussions are wide. I chose to keep the form simple, giving it a rudimentary abacus-like look, for the reversal of this verdict pushes us backwards in time. The vertical lines represent placement of thousands and horizontal the placement of hundreds to visualize the amount 4700.
