Shriya Manchanda & Shruti Dixit

The collage is an expression of the myriad emotions that were evoked when the Supreme Court overruled Roe vs Wade. At a time when we should be creating a world where there is oneness, where there is peace, where there is love – we continue to find ways to surround ourselves with ways to limit us – to make us feel like we are boxed in – to make us feel like we have no control. Why? And how did we as a society allow this? In this day and age, when we should come together to work for a better future– we continue to divide ourselves. We continue to find ways to express the supremacy of one gender over another. The United States sets the precedent for many countries in the world. What kind of world are we creating where we are tying up the hands of our women?

The collage was curated by Shriya who found images and quotes that perfectly resonated what she was feeling within. Together, the mother-daughter duo worked on expressing their helplessness and the starkness of the situation through the black and white images and text. The focus on the feminine, though clichéd, came through the pink images. The writing in red, the red thread and the red lines going through the collage represent the anger they felt, and as they felt it was an attack on their blood and their body.
