Dani Lessnau

Anigav and her Lollipops is a fairytale written in response to the violence of the Dobbs decision in 2022.  I am touched to be a part of this amazing collective of humans asked to respond to four of the pages from the court transcripts.  I repurposed the justice’s words from the pages I was given and wrote an incantation to subvert their intended meaning.  Thereby returning the power of the voice to those bodies whom the right belongs to.  Fantastical perhaps, but addressing a situation that is as real, as it is urgent.  With love and resilience, Dani Lessnau.

Bio

Dani Lessnau is an artist and healer rooted in Brooklyn, New York.  She studied at the International Center of Photography, received her MFA from Bard College and is currently pursuing a Master of science in Acupuncture and Chinese Herbal Medicine.  Lessnau is interested in complicating habits of conventional perception.  She engages in a hyper-sensitization practice, embracing her own body as a medium in constant relationship.
