Kavanaugh, J. concurring.

Iron Oxide, Paper, Wax — 11”w x 11”l x 3”d

This piece was informed by 4 pages of text from Justice Kavanaugh’s decision to overturn Roe V. Wade. While examining Justice Kavanaugh’s words, I kept returning to the “I emphasize what the Court today states: Overruling Roe does not mean the overruling of these precedents, and does not threaten or cast doubt on those precedents.”, making reference to marriage equality and access to birth control. This statement feels like a carefully worded guise, one that wraps the overturning of Roe v. Wade up in a tidy yet transparent bow. This piece is made from a print from a rusty hanger onto translucent paper, with text from Kavanaugh’s concurring to overturn this 50 year old ruling.
